Thanksgiving Hosting: The Pre-Guest Cleaning Timeline That Actually Works

Two weeks out: the deep clean

This is when you tackle what guests won’t consciously notice but will subconsciously register: baseboards, window tracks, ceiling fans, and the inside of the oven before it’s in constant use for a week straight. Coastal homes hold onto grime differently, so if it’s been a while since your last deep clean, don’t wait until Thanksgiving week to find that out.

The week of: the rooms guests actually see

Stock the guest bathroom before anyone arrives, not after the first person asks where the extra towels are. Give dining and living areas, the rooms that carry the whole event, the most attention on floors, upholstery, and any surface a dish might land on. And don’t skip the entryway, it’s the first and last impression of the day.

The morning of: the fifteen-minute reset

Wipe kitchen counters one more time, run the dishwasher empty so it’s ready for the first round of dishes, and do a final walk-through of the bathroom. That’s it. Two weeks for depth, one week for visibility, morning of for maintenance, hosts who follow that order aren’t cleaning at 9am on Thanksgiving morning.
