What actually prevents it

Run bathroom exhaust fans for a full twenty minutes after every shower, not just while you’re in it. Wipe window sills weekly during the wettest winter stretches. And keep closet doors cracked periodically to let air circulate on exterior-wall closets. A recurring cleaning schedule catches early moisture signs, a musty smell, a slightly soft grout line, before they become a real problem.
