Before the fast: a full day of cooking in a short window

Many families gather for a substantial meal before sundown, which means a kitchen that sees heavy use in a compressed amount of time. Clear counters ahead of time, run the dishwasher empty so it’s ready to load through the afternoon, and give the range hood filter and stovetop a real wipe beforehand so grease from a long cooking stretch doesn’t sit for a full day while everyone is away.

After the fast: getting ready to host again on short notice

Once the fast ends, the gathering to break it often comes together quickly. Having the dining area, guest bathroom, and kitchen already reset from the day before means you’re not cleaning at the exact moment you want to be with family. A quick counter wipe and a fresh towel in the bathroom go a long way after a full day away from the house.
